More from Robert Munsch

Money is an underlying theme in many different parts of our own lives. This is why financial literacy is important to learn about. Having Financial Literacy means having the skills and knowledge that allows you to make informed decisions with all of your financial resources. It means being smart with money. These skills will be used throughout your entire life.

Make a doodle note on a piece of paper: Think about how you have used money in the past. Where did it come from? What did you spend it on? How might you use money in the future? How is money used by other people around the world? You can print this off as a template for your doodle:

Continue to think about using money, and finance management, as you listen and watch the following music video. Jot down any money related ideas you may have considered on your notes. You are going to send me a picture of your doodle notes at the end of this lesson!

Song One: MONEY (Pink Floyd, 1979)

Money is often used to purchase goods and services. In economics, goods and services are often spoken in the same breath. These are offered to the customers to provide utility and satisfy their wants. ‘Goods’ are the physical objects while ‘Service’ is an activity of performing work for others.

When considering purchasing goods and services we can separate them into wants, and needs. A need is a necessity, something required, something that is essential for life (for example food, shelter). A want is a desire, something you wish for, something that is non-essential for life (for example a car, “brand name” sneakers).

YOUR TASK: Provide five wants and five needs that someone graduating high school might spend money on (purchase). Add this to your note. Now send me a picture of your masterpiece! Here is an example of a groovy doodle note:
